{"id":3800,"date":"2012-09-28T14:23:18","date_gmt":"2012-09-28T18:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/?p=3800"},"modified":"2012-09-28T14:23:18","modified_gmt":"2012-09-28T18:23:18","slug":"savannah-film-festival-special-screenings-a-list-links-a-couple-of-previews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2012\/09\/28\/savannah-film-festival-special-screenings-a-list-links-a-couple-of-previews\/","title":{"rendered":"Savannah Film Festival special screenings: a list, links, a couple of previews"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"e26b170012445c56d240655bdd03f7bf\" data-index=\"1\" style=\"float: left; margin: 10px 10px 10px 0;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5595881567027133\";\r\n\/* Medium Rectangle *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"8584504377\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the Savannah Film Festival <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfest.scad.edu\/festival-info\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>, the entire schedule for the Oct. 27-Nov. 3 event will be available on Monday, October 1 at 10 a.m. Tickets will go on sale at exactly the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Passes have been available for some time through the <a href=\"http:\/\/savannahboxoffice.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Savannah Box Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today I posted about some of this year&#8217;s special guests, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2012\/09\/28\/james-gandolfini-matt-dillon-diane-lane-among-guests-for-2012-savannah-film-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\">an impressive list that includes James Gandolfini, Matt Dillon, and Diane Lane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2012\/09\/20\/2012-savannah-film-festival-competition-films-announced-by-scad\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> for the previously released list of competition films.<\/p>\n<p>The Savannah Morning News and Connect have also both reported the list of special gala screenings &#8212; the films typically shown to a packed Trustees Theater each evening during the 8-day festival. Russell&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1045658\/\" target=\"_blank\">Silver Linings Playbook<\/a><\/em>, winner of the top prize at the Toronto Film Festival<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1907668\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flight<\/a><\/em>, a new film by Robert Zemeckis,\u00c2\u00a0starring Denzel Washington, John Goodman and Don Cheadle, slated for release on Nov. 2nd<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1441951\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quartet<\/a><\/em>, directed by Dustin Hoffman and starring Maggie Smith<\/li>\n<li>Jacques Audiard&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2053425\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rust and Bone<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Wayne Blair&#8217;s<em>\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1673697\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Sapphires<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>about a quartet of Australian Aboriginal girls whose band entertains U.S. troops in Vietman<\/li>\n<li>and\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1446192\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rise of the Guardians<\/em><\/a>, a new 3D film that I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2012\/09\/28\/rise-of-the-guardians-official-trailers-for-3d-film-closing-the-savannah-film-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\">blogged about earlier<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ll try to get trailers for all those films into a single post over the weekend sometime, but I&#8217;ve got to say that I&#8217;m most excited about <em>On the Road<\/em> and <em>Amour<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>How does one turn the Kerouac classic &#8212; a book so much about the poetry of words &#8212; into a film? I don&#8217;t know, but Walter Salles&#8217; credits include <em>The Motorcycle Diaries<\/em>, a poetic road movie if there ever was one. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the trailer:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N9vsE0llyBM\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Amour<\/em> sounds like it could be a tough film to sit through &#8212; it&#8217;s an about an elderly couple who face a crisis. But Haneke&#8217;s work &#8212; including his most recent film <em>The White Ribbon<\/em> make him a force to be reckoned with.
