Cars coming off 285 don&#8217;t have to cross any lanes of traffic whether they are turning left or right off the highway. Cars getting on to the highway &#8212; whether through right turns or left turns &#8212; never have to cross lanes of traffic.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, a lot more cars continue to move at any given moment.<\/p>\n<p>The changing traffic patterns are far less expensive than conventional solutions like adding lanes.<\/p>\n<p>The system is apparently working out fine, despite the usual predictions of disaster from squelchers.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s another diverging diamond planned <a href=\"http:\/\/loganville.patch.com\/articles\/snellville-firm-lands-project-for-countys-first-diverging-diamond\" target=\"_blank\">for Gwinnett County<\/a>. There&#8217;s one planned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizen-times.com\/article\/20120624\/NEWS\/306240070\/Unique-revamp-eyed-Airport-Road-interchange?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CFrontpage\" target=\"_blank\">in Asheville<\/a>. There&#8217;s a new one <a href=\"http:\/\/baltimore.cbslocal.com\/2012\/06\/17\/arundel-mills-gets-diverging-diamond-interchange-to-ease-traffic-to-maryland-live-casino\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Maryland<\/a>.
