{"id":2303,"date":"2012-02-18T09:37:03","date_gmt":"2012-02-18T14:37:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/?p=2303"},"modified":"2012-02-18T09:37:03","modified_gmt":"2012-02-18T14:37:03","slug":"gingrich-threatens-to-sue-georgia-stations-that-run-some-romney-super-pac-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2012\/02\/18\/gingrich-threatens-to-sue-georgia-stations-that-run-some-romney-super-pac-ads\/","title":{"rendered":"Gingrich threatens to sue Georgia stations that run some Romney Super-PAC ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"e26b170012445c56d240655bdd03f7bf\" data-index=\"1\" style=\"float: left; margin: 10px 10px 10px 0;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5595881567027133\";\r\n\/* Medium Rectangle *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"8584504377\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>A variety of media sources are reporting that the Gingrich campaign is demanding that the Romney supporting Super-PAC Restore Our Future stop airing ads that are &#8220;NOT TRUE&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And, in a particularly interesting twist regarding various Constitutional issues, Gingrich&#8217;s campaign is threatening to sue Georgia-based television stations that run any of those ads.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503544_162-57380693-503544\/gingrich-demands-tv-stations-drop-attack-ad\/?tag=contentMain;contentBody\" target=\"_blank\">CBS<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An attorney representing the former House Speaker, according to Gingrich&#8217;s website, sent letters to Georgia-based television stations saying the ad is &#8220;NOT TRUE&#8221; (Gingrich&#8217;s emphasis, not ours). <\/p>\n<p>Attorney Patrick Millsaps wrote that the ad is &#8220;defamatory&#8221; and could expose the television station to &#8220;civil liability&#8221; if the station airs it.<\/p>\n<p>The letter says the ad connects Gingrich with Democrat Nancy Pelosi, saying they co-sponsored a bill to provide &#8220;$60 million a year to a United Nation&#8217;s program supporting China&#8217;s brutal one-child policy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an ad that would likely be in question:<br \/>\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xv3khbf4trs\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8300-503544_162-503544.html\" target=\"_blank\">other news<\/a> from Friday, Gingrich turned up the rhetorical heat even more (there&#8217;s got to be an upper limit somewhere): <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After two people dressed in chicken suits entertained the crowd, holding a sign reading &#8220;I&#8217;m Chicken to Debate Newt,&#8221; Gingrich hit his rivals for backing out of a CNN-sponsored debate that had been scheduled for March 1 but was canceled after Santorum, Romney and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas said they would not attend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m going to ask them to reconsider and come to Georgia. It&#8217;ll be just fine,&#8221; Gingrich told an audience of about 400 gathered in an airplane hangar in Peachtree City for an evening rally. &#8220;We&#8217;ll be hospitable, and frankly there&#8217;s something wrong when someone tries to buy their way to the presidency.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That Gingrich would be under this kind of pressure in Georgia, especially given the widespread endorsements from state Republican leaders, is another sign that his campaign is essentially over.
